GM Recalls 3.5 Million Trucks and SUVs for Faulty Brake Problem

GM brake recall General Motors Class Action Brake Recall Class Action Lawsuit

General Motors is recalling nearly 3.5 million pickup trucks and SUVs affected by faulty braking systems, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency has reported more than 113 crashes and 13 known injuries linked to General Motors vehicles with defective brakes.

This issue was first brought to light by the faulty brake attorneys at Cory Watson, who filed both a 2017 class action lawsuit in Texas and a 2018 class action lawsuit in California on behalf of clients who experienced collisions as a result of the GM brake defect.

Which General Motors Vehicles Have Faulty Brakes?

The nationwide recall involves some of GM’s best-selling vehicles, including:

  • 2015 to 2017 Cadillac Escalade
  • 2014 to 2018 Chevrolet Silverado
  • 2015 to 2018 Chevrolet Suburban
  • 2015 to 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe
  • 2014 to 2018 GMC Sierra
  • 2015 to 2018 GMC Yukon/Yukon XL

The recall acknowledges a defect in the design of the vehicle’s vacuum brake assist pump. The flaw makes it difficult to stop with the brake pedal becoming hard, requiring the driver to use much more force to slow the vehicle, increasing stopping distance and the risk of a dangerous crash.

“It’s a serious public safety threat, not only for those in GM vehicles with the faulty braking systems, but for all other drivers and passengers sharing the road with them,” said Cory Watson principal attorney Jerome Tapley.

Cory Watson Defective Brake Attorneys Weigh In

This recall confirms what the experienced brake failure lawyers at Cory Watson already knew, and what their clients have been alleging for nearly two years.

“General Motors now admits it has installed faulty braking systems in millions of Chevrolet, Cadillac, and GMC trucks and SUVs for years, but it had never before informed consumers of the dangers,” said Cory Watson principal attorney Ryan Lutz.

Cory Watson Attorneys are no stranger to winning large settlements against automotive giants.

In 2017, a California state court jury awarded a $25 million verdict to our clients after determining that a Nissan SUV’s defective brakes caused an accident that killed three people and resulted in an elderly driver being wrongfully charged with vehicular manslaughter. Cory Watson attorneys Jerome Tapley, Ryan Lutz, and Adam W. Pittman led the trial team representing plaintiffs.

“General Motors must be held accountable for the safety of the vehicles they make, and for the safety of the consumers who buy them,” said Cory Watson attorney Adam W. Pittman.

Do You Have a Claim Against General Motors?

It shouldn’t take 113 crashes and 13 known injuries to acknowledge a safety defect. With millions of affected GM pickups and SUVs on the roads, our attorneys know that it is only a matter of time until more people are hurt.

Cory Watson Attorneys are leading the nationwide investigation into GM brake defect accidents and are actively filing claims on behalf of those injured by a GM vehicle with defective brakes.
