Essure® Birth Control Lawsuit

Cory Watson Attorneys is no longer accepting Essure cases.

On July 20, 2018, pharmaceutical giant Bayer announced that it would discontinue sales of its Essure birth control device, no longer selling or distributing the product after December 31, 2018.

This announcement comes after the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) restricted sales to doctors in April 2018 to protect women and ensure they were properly informed of the risks associated with Essure birth control.

Serious Essure Injury Claims Filed

To date, more than 10,000 injuries have been reported and an estimated 16,000 lawsuits have been filed by women claiming that Essure permanent birth control caused serious injuries such as device migration, organ perforation, autoimmune disorders, accidental pregnancies, and hysterectomies.

Thousands of women have chosen to file personal injury lawsuits, accusing Bayer of hiding safety evidence from the FDA. If you have been injured by Essure birth control, get the help you deserve – give us a call today.

Essure is a surgical implant device used as a permanent form of birth control. The device consists of two metal coils inserted into the fallopian tubes. Essure prevents pregnancy as the coils provoke an inflammatory response and scar tissue grows around the devices. It is meant as a form of permanent birth control for women and takes several months to become effective.

According to the FDA, more than 10,000 injuries have been reported since the product was approved in 2002. The procedure is not reversible, and in many cases, Essure’s placement leads to serious pain, injury, and infection.

The high number of women experiencing dangerous side effects and various medical complications has led to the FDA issuing a “black box” warning and a doctor-patient checklist. A black box warning is the strictest warning put in the labeling of products by the FDA when there is reasonable evidence of an association of a serious hazard with the product.

The side effects associated with Essure are extensive. Injuries include:

  • Device migration
  • Organ perforation
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Accidental pregnancy
  • Hysterectomy
  • Heavy menstrual bleeding
  • Back and pelvic pain
  • Weight changes
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Migraine headaches
  • Nickel allergy reactions
