On June 1, 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a recall of nearly a half-million Power XL Self-Cleaning juicers due to potential laceration and ingestion injury concerns.

Why were Power XL Juicers recalled?
The juicers were distributed by Tristar Products Inc., of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, until February 17, 2022, and then distributed by Tristar Products Inc., on behalf of Empower Brands LLC, of Middleton, Wisconsin from February 17, 2022, until Empower Brands issued the recall on June 1, 2023.
Empower recalled the juicers due to a defect that may cause them to suddenly burst during use, potentially striking consumers. Additionally, particle shavings may be left in the juice, posing an ingestion hazard to consumers.
Empower Brands is aware of at least 261 incidents involving 47 reports of injuries, such as:
- Severe cuts requiring emergency medical treatment
- Stitches
- Bruises
- Ingestion of small particles requiring medical attention
The CPSC cautioned consumers to immediately stop using the recalled XL Self-Cleaning Juicers and contact Empower Brands for a full refund.
What models are included in the Power XL Juicers recall?
The recalled Tristar and Empower-brand Power XL models include the following models and UPC numbers:
- Model No. SHL 96, UPC 7-52356-83067-0
- Model No. SHL90-SC, UPC 7-52356-83138-7
The Model and UPC numbers can be found on the rating label, located on the bottom of the unit for SHL96 models or the side of the unit on SHL90-SC models.
Affected juicers were sold from September 2000 through August 2022, at retail stores nationwide. About 469,000 recalled Power XL Juicers were sold in the U.S. An additional 10,9000 were sold in Canada.
The recall comes just two weeks after Tristar and Empower recalled about 456,000 Power XL Stuffed Waffllizer waffle makers due to burn hazards. The companies received at least 44 incident reports, including 34 burn injuries, three of which required medical attention.
