Exactech Connexion GXL Hip Liner

Cory Watson Personal Injury Attorneys  >  Exactech Connexion GXL Hip Liner

HAVE YOU OR A LOVED ONE SUFFERED INJURIES FROM AN EXACTECH CONNEXION GXL HIP IMPLANT LINER?

A hip replacement can be one of the most life-changing medical procedures a person can undergo. For many, it can be positive and lead to a much healthier, stress-free lifestyle. However, many people who have undergone hip replacement and had Exactech Connexion GXL Hip Liners installed as hip implants have dealt with painful, negative effects.

Call (877) 562-0000 now or fill out our 100% free initial consultation form to learn more, including if you have a case. Cory Watson’s defective medical device attorneys have more than 30 years of experience working to provide people the justice and compensation they deserve.

WHAT IS AN EXACTECH CONNEXION GXL HIP IMPLANT LINER?

All hip replacements contain several different parts – including an acetabular liner. An Exactech Connexion GXL Hip Liner is one of these acetabular liners and is intended for use with other Exactech hip components implanted during total hip replacement surgery. This liner is composed of an ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene plastic. According to the manufacturer, the unique radiation process used to construct the plastic implant results in liners that are less prone to wear and tear.

EXACTECH HIP IMPLANT LINER FAILURE AND RECALL

A study conducted by the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Florida College of Medicine found that Exactech Connexion GXL Hip Liners deteriorate and wear down much quicker than expected. This Connexion GXL Liner design failure has resulted in otherwise unnecessary revision surgeries following the initial hip replacement implant – often as soon as within 5 years after the initial surgery.  Worse, 75% of the affected patients suffered osteolysis as a result of these Exactech poly wear failures. This Osteolysis diagnosis means X-rays of their hips showed bone loss and destruction to the hip socket (acetabulum).

In a second independent study, Orthopedic surgeons from the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York discovered that the defective Exactech Connexion GXL Liner was likely linked to “severe polyethylene wear and osteolysis” also occurring within about 5 years of the patients’ initial hip surgery. The deterioration of the device was described as “palpable” and “catastrophic” by the authors of the study.

SYMPTOMS OF MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS RESULTING FROM EXACTECH CONNEXION GXL HIP IMPLANT LINER WEAR:

  • Pain.
  • Stiffness.
  • Limited mobility.
  • Loosening.
  • Osteolysis — disappearance or degeneration of bone tissue.
  • Revision surgery due to device failure.
