  • AcipHex®
  • Dexilant®
  • Nexium®
  • Prevacid®
  • Prilosec®
  • Protonix®
  • Zegerid®

If you or a loved one were diagnosed with chronic kidney disease while taking a heartburn drug such as Nexium, Prilosec or Prevacid, contact Cory Watson Attorneys. Our law firm has recovered more than 4 Billion for injury victims nationwide, and we’re available to review your case 24/7. Call today at (877) 562-0000 or complete our free initial consultation form.

Heartburn Drugs Shown to Increase Kidney Damage Risk

PPIs is the acronym for proton pump inhibitors, which work to reduce the amount of acid in a person’s stomach. Doctors often use them to treat stomach ulcers and acid reflux. These medications inhibit the stomach’s production of acid by working on the cells that line the stomach.

According to a study in JAMA Internal Medicine, patients who took PPIs once daily faced a 15 percent greater risk of chronic kidney disease. Patients who took PPIs two times per day experienced a 46 percent increased risk of developing chronic kidney disease.

Another study published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology showed that patients who took PPIs had a 96 percent increased risk of chronic kidney disease compared to those who took H2 blockers.

Severe PPI Heartburn Drug Side Effects

You may be able to file a lawsuit for medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering if you or a loved one experienced any of these side effects while taking a PPI heartburn drug:

  • Acute Kidney Failure
  • Acute Interstitial Nephritis
  • Chronic Kidney Disease
  • Dialysis Treatment
  • Gastric Cancer
  • Stomach Cancer
  • Esophageal Cancer
  • Gastric Adenocarcinoma
