Onewheel Skateboards Pose a Substantial Risk to Users

Cory Watson is Investigating Onewheel Injury Claims Onewheel devices have gained significant market popularity in recent years. They’ve also been tied to serious and even fatal injuries due to an alleged defect in the design or manufacture of the product. Specifically, they’ve led to a growing number of personal injury lawsuits based on the tendency of the product to nosedive during operation. What Is Onewheel?  Released in 2014 by Future Motion, Inc., Onewheel devices resemble skateboards, but contain only a single wheel in the middle of the board. These boards are self-balancing and can travel 6-18 miles on one battery charge .  Marketing for Onewheel’s riding machines focuses heavily on their desire to provide a “rad” experience for their customers. Some describe riding the devices as a cross between skateboarding and snowboarding.  The Failures That Lead to Serious Injuries  At the heart of the lawsuits against Future Motion, Inc. is a flaw that causes some Onewheels to lose power and come to an abrupt stop. When the wheel stops, the nose of the board slams down, throwing the rider forward.  With a top speed of nearly 20 miles per hour, an unexpected stop and the accompanying drop of the board’s nose can send a rider flying headfirst toward the ground. Injuries have included broken bones, lacerations, traumatic brain injuries, and in the most severe cases, death.  The Company’s Response to Onewheel Injuries  So far, Future Motion, Inc. has not addressed the nosedive problem. Onewheel products do not include warnings about the potential for sudden stops. Onewheel owners likely have no idea of the possible dangers associated with these devices and how life-changing Onewheel injuries could potentially be for them. What To Do After a Onewheel Accident  Injured riders and their families may be able to hold Future Motion, Inc. accountable for the harm caused by their defective product. You may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, lost wages, loss of function, and other costs that resulted from your personal injury accident. If you or a loved one has been injured in a Onewheel accident, it’s important to explore your legal options. At Cory Watson Attorneys, our experienced team has what it takes to help you. Call us at (877) 562-0000 or fill out our free online consultation form to begin the process.

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

More than 14,000 women lose their lives to ovarian cancer in the United States each year. By raising awareness and increasing education about this terrible disease and what causes it, we can all do our part to help prevent new cases from occurring in the future. What are the Symptoms of Ovarian Cancer? Approximately 21,000 new cases of ovarian cancer are discovered each year. It’s important to recognize the signs and symptoms early. Eighty percent of the cases diagnosed every year are at advanced stages, with a high mortality rate. Here are some ovarian cancer symptoms that you should look out for: Bloating Unexpected and sudden weight loss Pelvic or abdominal pain Abnormal vaginal bleeding Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly Increased frequency of urination To help protect yourself from any potential carcinogenic exposure, it’s important to thoroughly check product labels. Anything that may contain talc or asbestos should not be applied to your body. These products have been known to contain talc: Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder Shower-to-Shower Body Powder Long-Term Talcum Powder Use Increases Ovarian Cancer Rick It has become clear that regular use of talcum powder for personal hygiene is a major risk factor for developing ovarian cancer. Scientific studies in 2016 have shown that regular use of talcum powder on the genital area may increase a women’s risk of developing ovarian cancer by up to 33%. Many women use products such as Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder or Shower-to-Shower as a part of their daily hygiene ritual. Unfortunately, manufacturers chose not add warning labels to their products containing talcum powder warning women of the potential link to cancer. Now, thousands of women are coming forward to seek compensation for their pain and suffering. Johnson & Johnson has been ordered to pay more than $4.7 billion in total damages to 22 women that have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer after using J&J products containing talcum powder. Women and their families can now take action to fight back against Big Pharma, holding them accountable for their negligence and finding answers to how and why they were diagnosed. Using Uber or Lyft in Tennessee? Be Aware of Their Recent Insurance Protection Changes

When you use ridesharing services like Uber or Lyft in Tennessee you may think those companies will protect you if you are involved in a car wreck. However, there have been recent changes in their auto coverages for passengers that might make you think again. To be clear: If your Uber or Lyft driver is at fault for a car wreck, both Uber and Lyft provide up to $1M in insurance coverage to cover you for things like: Medical bills Pain and suffering Lost wages Property damages Any other types of damages that their drivers caused On the other hand, if an uninsured driver – or a driver who does not have adequate insurance coverage limits – collides with or wrecks into your Uber or Lyft vehicle, you get a very different set of coverages. Before 2020 both companies provided up to $1 million in insurance coverage to their riders in Tennessee to cover medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages riders may have sustained in a wreck where their Uber or Lyft driver wasn’t at fault, and the harm is caused by an uninsured or underinsured driver. Both companies have recently changed those coverages. Now, Uber provides only $25,000 in uninsured/underinsured insurance coverage to each rider, and a mere $50,000 in total coverage for all riders injured in an auto accident while occupying an Uber vehicle when the Uber driver is not at fault. Lyft now only guarantees $15,000 in coverage for medical bills to its riders injured in an auto collision if the Lyft driver is not at fault. So what should Uber and Lyft riders do to make sure they are adequately protected in Tennessee? You should check with your auto insurance provider to be sure you have uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage on your automobile policy—even if you just use services like Uber or Lyft on the weekends and special occasions. You may not realize it, but it is your own uninsured/underinsured automobile coverage that protects you if you are involved in an automobile collision where you are not at fault and the at-fault party is either uninsured or has inadequate coverage. No one really wants to think about being involved in a car wreck where they might need surgery or more intensive medical treatment, but if the person at fault does not have coverage—or only has, say, $25,000 in coverage—then you may be responsible for covering bills for expensive medical treatment. Even if you don’t own a vehicle; If you live in the same household as someone who does own a vehicle then talk to them about whether you are named and covered under their policy, especially if you ever share an Uber or Lyft with them. It is important to be aware that insurance companies in Tennessee cannot raise insurance rates or cancel coverage if their customers use uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage. After all, it is a coverage that you have paid for every time you paid your insurance premium. You can also consider a Non-Owner Insurance Policy if you do not own a vehicle or live with someone who does. Non-Owner Insurance Policies are auto insurance policies for people who only occasionally drive vehicles owned by people they do not live with, and they are typically much cheaper than auto insurance policies for people who own their own vehicles. It is more important than ever to make sure you are protected if tragedy strikes. You’re not alone. Our dedicated, experienced legal team is always here to discuss your legal options. Stay Safe this Labor Day Weekend

As the summer comes to an end and students head back to school, many families celebrate their final days of freedom together over Labor Day weekend. Unfortunately, many people sustain serious personal injuries from easily preventable accidents during this holiday weekend. Cory Watson attorneys have provided several safety tips to help you make the most of this time with friends and family, and save you from spending Labor Day weekend in the emergency room. Safety on the Road More than 35 million Americans are expected to pack up their bags and hit the road for a weekend getaway. If you’re traveling for Labor Day plans, you can certainly expect some traffic delays. It’s important to plan ahead, be patient, and always obey posted traffic signs. Remember to buckle up before you go, as seat belts can (and often do) save lives! Exercise more caution than usual – additional drivers on the road typically increases the odds of a potentially fatal car accident. “Value safety over speed, for the sake of your family as well as other drivers,” says Cory Watson personal injury attorney Curt Tanner. Don’t Drink and Drive Labor Day weekend is closely associated with increased alcohol-related traffic accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the Labor Day weekend is among the most dangerous for accidents on highways and byways. Never drink and drive. Let someone else drive, call a cab, get a ride, or just stay where you are. It is far better to be safe rather than sorry later. “Alcohol is responsible for thousands of serious injuries over holiday weekends every year, so make a safety plan and designate a driver before you get behind the wheel,” says Tanner. Safety on the Water Whether you’re at the pool, beach or out on the lake, take safety precautions and carefully observe boating laws. Pay attention to local notices like the colored flags for wave conditions at the beach. All boaters should wear life jackets while out on the water, no matter how skilled a swimmer they might be. “As a parent myself, I always make sure that young children wear a properly fitting life jacket when at the lake or beach,” says attorney Stephen Hunt. “With the distraction of family and friends, it is easy for a child to slip away unnoticed and potentially drown if they are not wearing a life jacket.” Enjoy Your Labor Day Weekend! Even the most safety-conscious can get into serious accidents, especially on holiday weekends. If you or someone you love suffered an injury due to someone else’s negligence, contact the legal experts at Cory Watson. We understand how insurance companies work and are prepared to pursue maximum compensation on your behalf. Tell us about your case! Call (877) 562-0000 now or fill out our online consultation form.

America’s Most Dangerous Holiday

We look forward to backyard barbecues, poolside fun, and dazzling fireworks each year on the 4th of July. It’s a great time to reflect on our freedoms and spend quality time with friends and family. However, this all-American holiday has a dark side if you don’t take the right precautions. July 4th has been named the most dangerous U.S. holiday thanks to the combination of extra travel, alcohol, and fireworks. The National Safety Council (NSC) is forecasting 405 deaths and 46,200 injuries for this year. At Cory Watson Attorneys, we are committed to helping victims who have suffered personal injuries and passionate about keeping our communities safe. Have fun, but stay safe this 4th of July with our quick safety tips. Firework Safety Never allow young children to play with fireworks, and never attempt to relight a “dud” firework. It could explode unexpectedly and cause serious injury. Be sure to buy fireworks from a reputable dealer instead of making your own. Remind your family to keep sparklers pointed away from their eyes, as eye injuries are the most common injury associated with fireworks. Alcohol Safety Do not attempt to drive, boat, grill, or handle fireworks while under the influence of alcohol. You put yourself and the lives of others at risk. When traveling, always wear your seatbelt and practice defensive driving. Holiday traffic can be frustrating and dangerous; always keep an eye out for aggressive or distracted drivers. Water Sports Safety Preventable drowning deaths peak in July, especially with children under the age of 5. Keep an eye on small children around swimming pools, boats, lakes, and the beach. Always wear a life jacket when boating, and keep a first aid kit handy. Lead by example and set water safety rules for your family before swimming. Stay Safe this 4th of July Don’t be afraid to celebrate your freedom and enjoy quality time with your friends and family this Independence Day. Just be sure to be prepared, use common sense, and know when it’s time to hand over your keys to a designated driver. Any of these accidents can cause severe injuries. If you or a loved one has been injured due to the negligent actions of another, contact the experienced attorneys at Cory Watson immediately to see if you qualify for compensation. Don’t wait to reach out – call (877) 562-0000 today or fill out the free online consultation form on this page to get started with your personal injury claim.

Summer Safety Tips: Heat Safety

Summer is a time for enjoying the great outdoors with family and friends. However, it’s important to remember that the long, hot days of summer can be dangerous if you don’t take the right precautions. At Cory Watson Attorneys, we are committed to helping victims who have suffered personal injuries and passionate about keeping our communities safe. Have fun, but stay safe this summer with these quick tips. Heatstroke Safety We are more likely to suffer from heatstroke, heat exhaustion, or dehydration during the summer. Spending too much time outdoors can cause the body to overheat. It’s important to recognize the signs of heatstroke, which include nausea, dizziness, and confusion. Stay hydrated by drinking more water than usual and take breaks in the shade to help you stay cool. Food Poisoning Injury According to the CDC, 48 million Americans get food poisoning each year. The warm weather is definitely a target for bacteria, and food-borne illnesses peak in the summer. It’s costly for businesses to keep food at the right temperatures in the heat, and not always obvious when food is contaminated. Make sure that your meal is always clean, cooked well and properly handled. An outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease at the Sheraton Atlanta during the busy summer travel season is another reminder that dangerous bacteria can lurk in hotel hot tubs, showers and air-conditioning units. Hot Cars Can Be Deadly Animals need shade and water, just like we do. Moderate their exercise and keep pets indoors when it’s hot. Never leave children or pets in a vehicle, as they can quickly succumb to the heat exposure. Temperatures inside a car can easily reach 140°F to 190°F within 27 minutes. Look before you lock! Worker’s Heat Stress Workers who are exposed to extreme heat or work in hot environments may be at risk of heat stress. Exposure to extreme heat can result in illness and injuries such as serious burns. Workers in outdoor environments such as firefighters, construction workers, farmers, and factory workers are all at risk. Take safety precautions to prevent on the job injuries. Don’t be afraid to get out and enjoy the summer sunshine with your friends and family. Just be sure to be prepared, use common sense, and know when it’s time to take a break in the shade. Any of these summer accidents can cause severe injuries. Don’t wait until it’s too late to contact an Alabama personal injury attorney. You’ll need compensation to cover your recovery costs. Contact us today for a free consultation – call (877) 562-0000 or fill out our online consultation form.
