Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Alabama
Pedestrian accidents have a very high rate of death and serious injury in Alabama. According to statistics compiled by the Alabama Department of Transportation, there were 613 reported pedestrian accidents in 2019. Alarmingly, there were 528 non-fatal injuries and 50 fatalities as a result of these crashes. These statistics indicate a nearly 95% chance of injury or death when someone is involved in a pedestrian crash in Alabama. It goes without saying that a pedestrian accident can have a sudden and major impact on the lives of victims.
Pedestrian accidents often occur due to the fault of drivers and other motorists. Many drivers fail to fully pay attention to their surroundings. Distraction is a major cause of pedestrian accidents in our state. Weather and poor visibility also can play a role. A large number of pedestrian crashes occur at night or in the early morning hours when driver visibility is at its lowest point. Each accident must be carefully and thoroughly investigated in order to determine the cause.
