Florence, AL (September 23, 2021) – Authorities with the Florence Water Department have confirmed that two workers were hospitalized following an accident at the Cypress Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. At around 12:50 p.m., on September 20, calls for assistance came in surrounding an accident that required assistance.
Reports from the Water Department indicate that two employees were being lowered into a sewage lift station. As the employees were being dropped down, the cable on the cage carrying them broke, causing the two men to fall an undisclosed distance before hitting the landing approximately 50-feet below ground.
The two men were both injured in the accident. Both victims were transported to area hospitals for further care. At this time, the incident remains under investigation.
