Andy Jones Named to Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for Paragard Litigation

Cory Watson attorney R. Andrew Jones has been named to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC) for In Re: Paragard IUD Products Liability Litigation; the multidistrict litigation involving serious complications linked to the Paragard IUD. Mr. Jones is one of 17 attorneys appointed by U.S. District Judge Leigh Martin May. The PSC will continue to investigate and develop the Paragard IUD injury claims. The committee also oversees the coordination, preparation, and presentation of the cases. “It is a tremendous honor to serve among a highly talented, passionate group of attorneys as we pursue this nationwide litigation,” said Jones. “We realize the gravity of the responsibility to fight for justice on behalf of consumers who were harmed by this dangerous product.” The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation established MDL 2974 in December 2020, consolidating cases involving Paragard in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia. More than 100 cases have been transferred to the federal MDL, with hundreds more expected to be filed against the manufacturer of Paragard. Paragard was approved by the FDA in the 1980’s as a non-hormonal birth control device. However, since approval the FDA has received thousands of reports from women and their healthcare providers about Paragard devices breaking upon removal. This can lead to broken pieces of the Paragard device becoming embedded in a patient and often require surgical removal. “At the end of the day manufacturers always have a responsibility to fully investigate and warn patients about serious side effects associated with their products,” Jones said. “Paragard’s manufacturer failed to do that for its consumers, so we will hold them accountable.” About Cory Watson Attorneys Cory Watson Attorneys is a nationally-recognized personal injury law firm with offices in Birmingham, Alabama as well as Memphis, and Nashville, Tennessee. Nina Towle Herring Named To Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for Elmiron Litigation

Cory Watson attorney Nina Towle Herring has been named to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC) for In Re: Elmiron (Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium) Products Liability Litigation; the multidistrict litigation involving Elmiron medication linked to serious eye damage. Mrs. Herring is one of 25 attorneys appointed by U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti. The PSC will continue to investigate and develop the Elmiron (Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium) claims. The committee also oversees the coordination, preparation, and presentation of the cases. “It is a great honor to pursue this nationwide litigation alongside a highly talented, passionate group of attorneys,” said Herring. “We take seriously the opportunity to fight for justice on behalf of consumers who were harmed by this defective drug.” The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation established MDL 2973 in December 2020, consolidating defective drug liability cases involving Elmiron in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Over 130 cases have been transferred to the federal MDL, with hundreds more expected to be filed against the manufacturer of Elmiron. Elmiron was approved by the FDA in 1996 for the treatment of painful bladder syndrome (interstitial cystitis). However, studies released in 2018 and 2019 showed a link between Elmiron (pentosan polysulfate sodium) and pigmentary maculopathy. The Elmiron label was changed in June 2020 to warn for retinal pigmentary changes. Symptoms of pigmentary maculopathy may include trouble reading, trouble adjusting to dim lighting, glare, blind spots, and in severe cases, blindness. The majority of plaintiffs represented in the MDL are anticipated to be women as interstitial cystitis, the medical condition that Elmiron was prescribed for, largely affects female patients.  “Despite Elmiron being an older drug, manufacturers always have a responsibility to fully investigate, and warn users about, serious side effects,” Herring said. “The manufacturers of Elmiron failed to do that and we will hold them accountable.” About Cory Watson Attorneys Cory Watson Attorneys is a nationally recognized personal injury law firm with offices in Birmingham, Alabama; Memphis, and Nashville, Tennessee. Cory Watson Investigates Wrongful Death Lawsuit on Behalf of Family of Koby Edwards

Cory Watson, a nationally distinguished personal injury firm, has been retained by the family of Koby Edwards to investigate a wrongful death lawsuit against the Cuthbert Police Department. Koby Edwards was shot to death by two Cuthbert Police Department officers. The following statement is issued on behalf of his family: We remain heartbroken in the aftermath of Koby’s tragic and completely unnecessary death at the hands of two City of Cuthbert police officers. While we understand that the Randolph County Grand Jury requested indictments be returned for reckless conduct against the two officers involved, many questions remain unanswered as to the officers’ motives in allegedly chasing down and using deadly force against a teenager while investigating a property crime. Far too often, black people are deprived of justice in these circumstances. We appreciate the diligent work of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and District Attorney Ronald McNease, Jr. in their investigation and presentation of evidence to the Grand Jury. While this initial proceeding is a significant first step, we look forward to uncovering the truth surrounding the death of our beloved Koby, however unsettling those facts may be. In this country, there exists a long history of unwarranted, excessively violent, and abhorrent use of deadly force by law enforcement against black people, and especially young black men. We are deeply troubled that Koby’s life was ended under these same circumstances and demand that this cycle of violence come to an end. We want to make clear that Koby did not pose a danger to society. His unwavering dream was to serve both his community and his country as a member of the armed forces. For those of you hurting with us, sending your kindness to us, and supporting us during this difficult time: We thank you for your love, light, and empathy. To all others, we request privacy pending the full outcome of this matter and ask that you direct any and all inquiries to our spokesperson.
