Birmingham, AL – Child Loses Life in Car Crash on I-59 near AL-77

Birmingham, AL (September 19, 2021) – A toddler has lost their life following an accident in Birmingham on Friday morning. At around 9:50 a.m., on September 17, emergency crews were notified that their assistance was needed on-site at a crash on Interstate 59.

Reports from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency show that a 33-year-old woman and a toddler were traveling on Interstate 59 when their vehicle collided with a second car near Alabama 77.

The impact of the crash sent the woman’s vehicle off the road. The woman and the toddler were both ejected from the vehicle.

The toddler sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The female driver was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of injuries. The driver of the second vehicle was not injured.

At this time, the ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division is investigating the cause of the crash.
