Leila Watson was featured in Westlaw Journal: Automotive, September 9th, 2014, Volume 34 Issue 5, for her work in the wrongful death case of Hernandez v. Hankook Tire America Corp.
The plaintiffs claimed Hankook’s DynaPro tire caused the death of Valente Santiago Garcia and serious debilitating injuries to Gregoria Hernandez. Garcia was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer on I-65 when the tread separated from the tire on the rear right side. This caused Garcia to lose control of the vehicle, killing Garcia and injuring Gregoria.

The victims filed suit against Hankook for the production of a deadly defective tire, Ford for the Explorer’s rollover, and Wal-Mart, for allegedly improperly inspecting the tire when the Explorer had been serviced at the local Wal-Mart store.
The Ford and Wal-Mart cases settled, which left Hankook as the only open case. On August 2nd, the case for the last remaining defendant was settled for an undisclosed amount.
Leila H. Watson of Cory Watson Attorneys represented the plaintiffs, alongside Sigfredo “Freddy” Rubio of Birmingham, Alabama.
