For the second time in three months, Johnson & Johnson has been ordered to pay a large award over claims that use of its talcum powder leads to cancer.
A Missouri jury awarded Gloria Ristesund $55 million in damages on May 2, 2016. Ms. Ristesund was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011 after using Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder for more than 35 years. Attorneys for Ms. Ristesund argued that Johnson & Johnson knew there was a possible cancer-causing agent in their body powder, but did not reveal it to the public.
