Jefferson County, AL (September 11, 2021) – The Jefferson County Coroner Medical Examiner has identified the pedestrian who lost their life in the Bessemer area on Thursday evening as a 58-year-old man.
Preliminary investigations from the Alabama State Troopers show that calls came in for assistance surrounding an accident on Interstate 59/20 at around 9:31 p.m.
According to reports, the male pedestrian was working on Interstate 59/20 by mile marker 112 during the evening hours. For unknown reasons, a Jeep Patriot, driven by a 48-year-old man, struck him.
The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries in the accident and was immediately pronounced deceased.
Further investigations found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Hogg was arrested and charged with DUI and reckless murder. At this time, investigations are ongoing.
