If you’re a fan of football, winning championships, and great leadership – or if you live in Alabama, then you’re in the right state at the right time.
First, the University of Alabama dominated this past weekend, securing its record 13th SEC Championship berth with a decisive 29-0 win over the Bayou Bengals of LSU. This is certainly turning into a special season for Alabama fans, as they watch the rise of what may be the storied programs’ first Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback in Tua Tagovailoa.
However, the story around our neighborhood here in Birmingham’s Five Points South centers on our neighbors at the sprawling urban campus of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).

The Blazer football team is looking more and more like they are on their way to the Conference USA Championship, after demolishing the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) by a score of 52-3 this past Saturday. This performance comes nearly four years after school administrators shut down the football program in 2014, only to resurrect it seven months later.
Currently sitting at 8-1, the UAB Blazers now turn their attention to their next game against the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) at Birmingham’s Legion Field.
The following week, they will visit Coach Jimbo Fisher at his new home as head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies. Can the Blazers take down one of the SEC’s top dogs in one of the league’s most challenging environments? Ironically enough, they’ve done it before. UAB defeated one of the best football coaches in college football history on his home turf back in the year 2000. Who was that coach? None other than Nick Saban.
It’s hard not to be excited about the championship football that is being played here in the state of Alabama and our city of Birmingham.
From the football fans here at Cory Watson Attorneys, congratulations to both teams as they continue to make our state proud!
