Honda has expanded its recall of vehicles with dangerous Takata Corp. airbags to include another 105,000 cars, the automaker announced Thursday, March 19.
The added vehicles include nearly 89,000 Pilot SUVs from the 2008 model year, as well as about 11,000 Civics from 2004 and another 5,000 Accords from the 2001 model year.
The expansion “reflects all possible vehicles that could potentially experience the problem,” Honda said in documents filed with the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
Takata’s airbags have been at the center of numerous recalls over the past year from over a dozen carmakers. As a major parts supplier, and one of the most prominent airbag manufacturers in the world, Takata faces allegations that it conducted secret testing on airbags it suspected were installed with faulty inflators as early as 2004.

Though the company still has not officially admitted any fault, Honda acknowledged at least one fatality linked to the defective devices. On Jan. 29, the automaker confirmed that a Takata airbag ruptured in the fatal crash of a 2002 Accord that had happened in Texas a week earlier. This was not the first death linked to these dangerous devices.
Takata’s airbags are fitted with faulty inflators, which can rupture during a crash causing shards of metal and debris to fly out of the device, injuring, maiming, or killing vehicle occupants.
According to the NHTSA, over 70 lawsuits have been filed over the defective airbags, and more are expected to come. If you or someone you love was harmed or killed by a Takata airbag, you deserve justice for your losses.
