Injury Accidents in Alabama
In 2019, a person was hurt in an Alabama car accident approximately once every 12 minutes. Statistics further tell us that a large share of crashes occurs in Alabama’s interstate system. Interstates in Alabama only for about 1% of the state’s total traffic mileage, but they also represent 25% of total traffic volume. In 2019, 11% of fatalities due to Alabama traffic accidents took place on the interstate. These numbers show us just how risky driving on the highway can be.
There are many reasons why interstates can be more dangerous and deadly than other public roadways. The speed limit on the interstate is higher and they are often more congested than other areas. Many drivers choose to exceed the speed limit and drive recklessly when they get on a highway. Other drivers fail to yield when changing lanes or are distracted by their cell phones or other objects in their vehicles. A single mistake while driving on the highway can cause the occurrence of a serious and life-altering collision.
