Birmingham, AL (November 2, 2021) – Police in Birmingham were at the scene of a deadly car accident in Birmingham on Monday afternoon. The accident took place on Interstate 20/59 near Fairfield.
According to a report, a 76-year-old man was driving a Chevy pickup truck in the wrong direction on the highway. As he proceeded, he collided head-on with a 2020 Nissan Kicks driven by a 36-year-old woman. The 76-year-old man suffered critical injuries and died as a result of the crash. The 36-year-old woman and a 2-year-old passenger in her vehicle both sustained serious injuries. They were taken to a local hospital where their conditions are not known at this time.
The crash caused all westbound lanes of the roadway to be blocked while the crash was investigated. There is no word on what caused the driver to travel the wrong way. Motorists experienced significant delays and were advised to avoid the area if possible.
No additional information has been released at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
