Birmingham, AL (October 19, 2021) – Officials with the Birmingham Police Department are investigating an incident where a worker was killed on the job. The incident occurred on Monday, October 18th around 10:00 a.m. along Interstate 65 northbound near Daniel Payne Drive.
According to a report, a 57-year-old man was working on an interstate sign. The man, who was an employee of the Alabama Department of Transportation, was in a bucket truck elevated above the highway. The man fell out of the elevated seat of the truck and landed on the ground below. When rescue workers arrived, he was rushed to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 10:20 p.m.
There is no word on the cause of the accident at this time. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation. No additional information has been released.
